Proposed new signs for the village

Round Eyemouth

Our new 152 pps book: 'Round Eyemouth - a guide for visitors and locals, has just arrived from the printers (retail price £7.99). The book covers the coast from Alnwick to Dunbar and inland as far as Coldstream and Duns. There are over a hundred photos and dozens of maps geared specially for walkers and cyclists, plus places to visit for motorists. It's fairly leftfield in parts - so not quite your average guidebook!

There are over half a dozen pages covering the coast path above, through and to the south of Burnmouth - even a photo of the Brae Race!

Author and photographer Alan Dearling now lives in Eyemouth as does co-author, Oliver Carfrae. Alan used  to live in Lyall Terrace, Burnmouth, was local editor for Fishing News, and took lots of pics that used to feature in the darts corner of the Flemington.

Please take a look the samples in the Eyemouth section of our website , or request a review copy. More contents info is attached.

The book can be seen/purchased at Eyemouth Post Office or Crossing the Bar book shop.

Burnmouth Gateway Stones
26 February 2010

SIR, - With reference to the recent debate, initiated by the unknown writer, commenting, amongst other issues, about the Burnmouth Gateway Stones.
Burnmouth Community Council would like to point out that the cost of the sculptures includes up to half the costs in “in kind” contributions.
For example, in excess of £3,000 of work to excavate the foundations, build the plinths and secure the stones is to be given to the project by Byzak and Scottish Water who are undertaking the work, currently going on in the village, to upgrade the sewage system.
As most of the remaining budget is being supplied by funders, the net cost of the sculptures to Burnmouth Community Council is £518.
The designs for the stone carvings and mosaic plinths can now be seen on the Burnmouth website www.burnmouthcc.com
If anyone has any other queries or if they wish to comment further, we would like to remind them that there is an open forum taking place monthly at the Burnmouth Community Council meetings.
The next meeting is on Wednesday, March 17, at 7.30pm in Burnmouth Village Hall.
CAROLINE CLOUGH,
Burnmouth Community Council.
